Who is the course for?

The course is for people who are currently teaching, or who would like to teach children between the ages of 7 and 12. You should have a strong intermediate level of English in order to be able to participate in the course.

What will the course provide?

This course will offer workshops specifically geared to teaching. The workshops will range from theoretical issues to practical applications.

What will I have achieved by the end of the course?

You will have experienced a period of self-reflection and development of your own understanding of what teaching Young Learners (YLs) involves
You will have discussed the usefulness of a large range of known and new techniques that experts consider essential tools of the trade in order to teach Young Learners successfully and supportively.
You will have used materials and activities aimed at YLs and have selected those that are of most use to your own teaching situation.
You will have had the opportunity to observe British Council teachers in the English language classroom.

The programme covers a range of topics including:

Characteristics of young learners
Classroom Management - issues and tools
Project work
Storytelling and reading
ICT for ELT
Teaching Vocabulary
Teaching writing
Classroom dram
Poetry, chants, rhyme and rhythm
Games for Young Learners
