Welcome to the latest edition of British Council Mexico's Talking English - our monthly newsletter for English language teachers

Our aim is to help you keep up to date with global ELT news and local events.

You'll find links to useful websites and articles, online teaching resources, and details of events and training opportunities in Mexico.

 Core Inventory for General English – now with posters
The British Council and EAQUALS joined together in 2010 to create a core curriculum inventory for the English language based around key language points for each level of the CEFR. You can now download the Core Inventory posters for levels A1-C1 for your staffroom or classroom.
 Global English and the teaching of pronunciation
The emergence of so many different kinds (or 'varieties') of international English has caused a number of linguists to question the use of native speaker pronunciation models in the teaching of English. This article presents research into the pronunciation of global English and gives some teaching implications.

 60 Second Word Challenge
60 Second Word Challenge is the latest British Council app for learners of English, and is now available for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It's a fun vocabulary quiz with 10 topics, three difficulty levels and 600 questions. Download it now while it’s still free!
 ELT Pics
ELT pics is a fabulous resource for English teachers: photos that they can use in their teaching as they like, clearly organised in different categories. The pictures are all supplied by teachers - find out how you can use them and help here.

Teacher Training Courses

The next TKT course starts in August. and will be covering Module 1: 'Language and background to language learning and teaching'

We will also be running Module 4:CLIL ( Content and Language Integrated Learning) module for the TKT.

How to Workshops

Our next "How to" session for teachers in Mexico will be at British Council Mexico, Lope de Vega on Wednesday 6th July, 5:30 – 7:00pm and will look at: ‘How to exploit project work and vocabulary building with Young Learners’ The session is free and open to all teachers. If you are interested in attending, please send a mail to info@britishcouncil.org, or call 5263 1900 for more information. Please note that this is the last session of this academic year and we will start again in August.

Thanks to suggestions and feedback from those who attend these sessions, we are now placing a more YL focus on these sessions and they will taking place on different days each month so that as many of you have the opportunity to attend as possible. We will publicise the sessions three months in advance, as we have been doing recently, so that people can plan their attendance.
