The British Embassy, through the British Council. Offers Mexican professionals the opportunity to take part in its annual competition for postgraduate scholarships in U.K. universities. The invitation to compete for Chevening scholarships is open to pursue studies in the period 2009-2010.

These scholarships have a maximum duration of one year and are financed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the British Government, through the British Embassy in Mexico, with the support of British universities.

Profile and requirements

Candidates for Chevening scholarships must have personal qualities that will be enhanced by the scholarship, as well as the commitment and ambition to return to Mexico on finishing their studies, to stand out in their field and contribute to the development of the country.

Therefore, the British Embassy invites young Mexican professionals who wish to carry through postgraduate studies in the U.K. to submit their applications by September 30, 2008 at 15hrs. Mexico City time.

Candidates must meet the following general requirements.

• Have an outstanding professional career with an excellent track record and a minimum of two years experience.
• to have reached a high academic level, with a minimum average of 8.0 in the first degree and a graduate in a relevant field.
• Have a high level of English, as verified by the IELTS examination, which must be taken before the deadline for the submission of documents (check dates with the examinations section of the British Council) and show a result of at least 6.5.(Academic Module)
• There is no age limit

Important points

The financing provided is not a loan.

The invitation is open annually (this year is from 2nd. June to 30th. September 2008 at 15:00 hrs. - APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE RECEIVED AFTER 15:00 hrs.) in the year prior to the one intended for study. The U.K. academicyear begins in September / October.

Applications are received and processed in the British Council.

There is no extension to the deadline for submission of applications.

Only applications including complete documentation will be examined.

Only the IELTS exam with a minimum mark of 6.5 or CPE (Cambridge Proficiency Examination) with a minimum result of ‘C’ are accepted as proof of level of English.

If an applicant is at present working in an institution with a co-funded/ Chevening scholarship agreement, he/she should apply for the scholarship under the following: institutions with co-funded scholarship agreements.

Selection procedures are the responsibility of the evaluating committe. The result issued by the committe is confidential and its decision irrevocable.

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis; meeting all the requirements does not guarantee the offer of one.

Duration and coverage

The duration of scholarships is from three months to one year. Coverage is total, except for travelling expenses Mexico – U.K. – Mexico.
The monetary worth of the scholarship will be subject to revision in the event that the candidate receives funds from other institutions.
