WHERE WE ARE
WHO WE ARE
The British Council is the organization for cultural and educational relationships around the world
We are the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. As well as education, we run programmes in the arts, science, sport, governance and English language.

Our Vision, Purpose and Values
All of the British Council’s work is aligned so that it contributes to achieving our purpose in the UK and around the world.

Our history

On our history website you can learn how we developed from small beginnings in the 1930s to become the major international organisation that we are today.

Our locations
We work in 110 countries and territories across the world.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND DIVERSITY

Equal Opportunities and Diversity are the values on which all our actions are based in the British Council when dealing with our contacts, partners and friends, and with our multicultural team around the world.

  • Each of our strategies and projects are based on the respect for diversity and equality.
  • We understand that our role as an organisation that promotes educational opportunities and cultural relations depends on the way we relate with a diverse world, which we approach from a perspective of equality.
  • We are committed to promote equal opportunities and diversity, in order to contribute towards a more just and inclusive society that stops discrimination, stereotypes and harassment in all its forms, either personal, cultural or institutional.

To recognise the importance of diversity and equality is the core of our work for the interaction of ideas, interests and achievements in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world.
