OBJECTIVES
BCCTE (British Council Certificate in Teaching English) aims to provide in-service training for teachers with experience in ELT who wish to upgrade their teaching skills, their level of English and/or receive formal training. This course is recommended for teachers who would like to do a ICELT/COTE course but do not have the necessary experience, or whose level of English is not yet equivalent to Cambridge ESOL FCE (First Certificate in English).
COURSE CONTENTS
BCCTE is a 100-hour course on topics and concepts related to language teaching methodology, as well as language development and supervised teaching practice. In addition, candidates are expected to do 30 hours of self-study to complete tasks, assignments and lesson planning for the supervised teaching practice. Depending on the context, this component might be carried out during the sessions or with the participants’ classes.
REQUIREMENTS
- Pass a British Council PET level (Cambridge ESOL) language examination
- Be at least 18 years old
In order to obtain the certificate, candidates must
- Attend at least 90% of the sessions
- Participate actively in the sessions
- Observe at least two lessons by experienced teachers
- Successfully complete the supervised teaching practice
- Successfully complete the required assignments
- Pass the final examination
