In-Service Certificate in English Language Teaching

OBJECTIVES

ICELT (In-Service Certificate in English Language Teaching), formerly known as COTE (Certificate for Overseas Teachers of English), is an advanced English language teaching certification awarded by Cambridge ESOL.   The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) in Mexico, has granted oficial recognition for ICELT as an international standard qualification for English language teaching. (artículo 8º, fracción I, párrafo segundo del Acuerdo 330)

COURSE CONTENTS

The ICELT is a 150-hour course which provides practical in-service training for teachers of English as a foreign language who have significant experience. It aims to ensure a balance between understanding of theoretical background and the demands of practical classroom application. Participants develop reflective skills by writing academic essays on methodology, and on language as object of study,  simultaneously developing their proficiency level. The course includes an important component of supervised teaching practice. Courses can take place in- or out-house, and are in all cases moderated by Cambridge ESOL.

REQUIREMENTS

- Pass a British Council FCE level (Cambridge ESOL) language examination, and an entrance exam which includes an interview

- Be a practicing teacher

- Be at least 18 years old

- Have completed 500 hours of teaching by the end of the course

- Successfully complete the methodology, language development, and supervised teaching practice components of the course.

- Pay the examination fee established by Cambridge ESOL

ICELT courses are carried out by highly qualified tutors who are trained and authorised by Cambridge ESOL.
