The Open and Distance Learning Unit (ODLU) was set up in June 2002 in response to the increasing demand for ELT teacher training and education at a distance in Mexico, Latin America, and elsewhere in the world.
The ODLU uses Moodle as its IELE (integrated electronic learning environment) for online and semi-distance courses. It provides and supports course materials and resources, e-mail contact between course tutors and students, assessment, conferencing and chat rooms.
The ODLU provides the following educational services:
E-tutoring Certificate, for English teachers and teacher trainers who participate in online or semi-distance courses. It consists of two 10-hour face-to-face modules and 40 hours online
Diploma in Teaching English for Specific Purposes (DipTESP). The DipTESP is accredited by the University of Southampton, towards their MA TESOL programme.

- Open and Distance MA ELT curriculum development for Mexican universities
- Materials production for open and distance language learning and teacher training courses
TUTORS
The ODLU has a network of experienced distance teachers, trainers and course writers in Mexico, England and the United States.
