Enquiry on results (EOR) guidelines for test centres

Introduction

Enquiry on Results is a procedure by which candidates can request to have their papers re-marked. The candidates must apply for a re-mark at their original test centres within six weeks of the Test date.

Definition of terms

Enquiry on Result - the process by which candidates ask for one or more test modules, i.e. Listening and/or Reading test, Writing script and Speaking interview to be re-marked by experienced Examiners and Senior Clerical Markers. This request is made after the test results have been released and is designed to ensure candidate performance has been accurately assessed.

Enquiry on Results ¬General regulations

Candidates are entitled to request a full re-mark (i.e. all test papers) or a partial re-mark (I.e. one or more module) of their original results.

The Candidate is requested to return the original Test Report Form when applying for an EOR.

Candidates must submit all their requests for re-mark to the IELTS Centre Administrator within six weeks of the test date.

The re-mark of the candidate's work is carried out by trained listening/Reading clerical markers and Cambridge ESOL-appointed Writing/Speaking Examiners and Appeals raters employed by British Council.

Enquiry on Result - Process

Candidates requesting a re-mark of their results must be advised to complete an EOR form, available from IELTS test Centres. Candidates can apply for a re-mark of all four modules or select the ones they wish to have done. The fee is the same.

The IELTS Administrator sends the test materials and documents requested for re-marking to IELTS British Council's Head Office, by courier or registered post.

The Centre is notified of re-mark result no later than six weeks after Head Office's receipt of materials.

The letter will confirm whether the candidate's result has changed. The candidate's test papers will not be returned and there will be no comments on their language performance.

Please note that the identity of the Examiner/s involved in either the Enquiry on Result process or monitoring must be kept strictly confidential at all times. Neither candidates nor Examiners should be informed of their identity.

Improvement in score (Changed EOR)

Should a candidate be awarded a higher score than the original, a new Test Report Form (TRF) will be issued by the Test Centre with the new score/s and Examiner number recorded. Receiving Institutions should also be sent a copy of the new TRF together with a covering letter

A full refund of the re-mark fee will be issued to the candidate.

No improvement in score (unchanged EOR)

Should there be no improvement to the original score, the candidate will be notified. No new TRF will be issued and there will be no refund of the re-mark fee. The centre must return the original TRF to the candidate with the letter.
