Learning English should be fun and stimulating for children and it is also expected that it would be interesting for parents to watch their child grow in confidence as he or she learns more and more English. Taking a test such as YLE Starters is an excellent way of motivating children to learn and showing how much progress he or she has made.

This level is designed for children from the age of seven who have already taken around 100 hours of English classes.

YLE Starters has three parts: Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking and the whole exams lasts about 45 minutes.

The main skill focuses of this test are:

Reading and Writing Reading short sentences and recognising words, reading sentences about a picture, writing one-word answers, spelling single words, reading a test, writing missing words (nouns), reading questions about a picture story.
Listening Listening for words and prepositions, listening for numbers and spelling, listening for specific information of various kinds, listening for words, colours and prepositions
Speaking Understanding and following spoken instructions, understanding and answering spoken questions, understanding and responding to personal questions.
