Have you recently enrolled, or are about to enrol, on a twelve month postgraduate course in the UK? Do you want help with funding your studies? Are you 35 or under and already experienced in your chosen career? Would you like to develop your career and become part of an influential global alumni? Then a British Chevening Scholarship could be right for you.
The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK. Funded by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and administered by the British Council.
The level of support varies. Some countries, such as Bahrain, only cover your academic fees. Support can include:
a gratis student visa |
all your academic fees |
a monthly allowance to cover living expenses |
an arrival and departure allowance to help with travel |
a book and clothing allowance |
travel costs to and from the UK. |
The scholarship is a prestigious award that gives you the chance to experience a world-renowned education system. In addition, this provides you with the opportunity to experience UK life and meet other Chevening scholars. Once you become a Chevening scholar, you will discover many opportunities to develop your career and become a future leader in your field.
You can apply if you are a postgraduate student who can prove your academic success and who has already begun a career in your chosen field. You'll be expected to show you have at least two years' working experience, with an excellent track record illustrating your achievements, and evidence that you will become a leader in your chosen field. You will also need an upper second class degree or higher.
You must not be over 35 years old and must be a resident in your home country when you apply.
You must have good English language skills (most UK Higher Education institutions require a minimum IELTS of 6.5 for admission onto postgraduate courses).
One of the main aims of the scheme is to assist successful candidates in playing leading roles in the future of their country. Applicants will normally be selected from those who wish to take courses in: economics, finance, banking, law, human rights, public administration, management, project planning, media, political science, international relations, diplomatic training and environmental studies although applicants for other courses may be considered.
You are expected to show a commitment to return to your home country, where you will contribute to the country's socio-economic development using the new skills and knowledge acquired during your stay in the UK.
You cannot apply for a scholarship for undergraduate or PhD study.
