How do I register?

You can register for IELTS by following these steps:

1. Select your test details

Go to our online registration website. Select Kuwait, date and module.

2. Complete your application form

Complete the online application form. You will receive acknowledgment of your application by email.

3. Pay for your test

Print the email and bring it to the British Council in Kuwait along with payment, photographs and ID.

Applications will be cancelled if payment is not received within three working days of completing the online application form.

4. Confirmation of your test

When the British Council receives your payment, you will receive another email confirming your registration. You will also receive a password for a 30-hour online IELTS preparation course, Road to IELTS.

What documents do I need to provide?

ID

Kuwaiti nationals must include a clear copy of their national ID or valid passport with their IELTS application.

Non Kuwaiti nationals must include a clear copy of their valid passport.

No other forms of ID will be accepted (e.g. insurance cards, driving licence etc...)

The ID must be valid for at least one month from the date of the test.

The same ID you use to register for IELTS must be presented on test day in original; no other ID can be accepted for any of the 4 modules.

If the ID you used for your application is not available for the test day, please inform the British Council at least one week before test day.

Photographs

Please include two colour passport-sized photographs with your application. The photographs must:

• be in colour
• be identical
• be no more than 6 months old
• be taken against a plain background so that features are clearly distinguishable
• be undamaged
• be in sharp focus and clear
• be print quality of professional standard
• be a close-up of the head and shoulders
• show the candidate looking straight at the camera
• show the candidate with a neutral expression
• show the candidate with the mouth closed
• show the candidate with eyes open and clearly visible
• show the candidate without glasses
• not show any shadows
• not show anything covering the face, the outlines of the eyes, nose or mouth

Please write your full name on the reverse of each photograph and sign it. Please see guidelines on acceptable photographs for registration.

The main test (Listening, Reading and Writing) is held on Saturdays and Thursdays according to the schedule below. The speaking test can be held 7 days before or within 7 days of the main test date. You will receive an email on the Wednesday before the test giving information about your speaking test time and date.

1. Fees

The IELTS test fee is KD 69.

2. Methods of payment

We accept payment by cash, knet or credit card.

1. Transfers

Candidates may transfer their test date, for which KWD 15 will be charged. Extensions are allowed once only and such requests will be entertained if they are received at least 05 weeks before the test date.

2. Refunds

Candidates may cancel their test date, for which KWD 17 will be charged. Such requests will be entertained if they are received by Examinations Services at least 05 weeks before the test date.

Please note that test transfers and refunds will not be processed less than 05 weeks before the test date.

In order to make a transfer or refund request you need to fill in and submit the Request for Refund or Test Date Transfer Form. It is also available at the British Council office in Kuwait.

Find out what happens on the day and you’ll be more prepared and confident.

1. Before you leave your home

• Carry your passport/national identity card
• Carry pencils, sharpener and an eraser
• Avoid wearing noisy accessories which may disturb other candidates

2. When you arrive at the venue

• Please arrive at the exam venue no later than 0800
• Deposit all your belongings and cell phones at the baggage area. You are only allowed to take your identity document, pencil(s), sharpener and eraser into the test room.
• Proceed towards the helpdesk, where your id will be checked and your photograph will be clicked.
• Visit the washroom before you enter the exam hall.
• Go inside the exam room and find the desk label with your name and candidate number on it.

3. At the beginning of the test

• Listen carefully to the Test Supervisor and follow all the instructions given.
• Check your data sheet carefully. You must tell the invigilator if there is any discrepancy (spelling mistakes, wrong date of birth, passport number etc) as this information will appear on your Test Report Form.
• If you need any clarifications, raise your hand and an invigilator will come to help you.
• Please check your headphones before the start of the listening module and inform the invigilator if there are any problems.
• You will be given the Listening/Reading Answer Sheet and the Listening booklet.  Listen to the instructions carefully and fill in the required details.
• Tell the invigilator immediately if you think you have not been given the right question paper.

4. During the test

• You may not lend anything to, or borrow anything from another candidate during the test.
• The test begins at 0900
• Please stop writing and put your pencils down when you are instructed to do so. Candidates who fail to do so may be disqualified.
• If you haven’t already finished speaking then check the speaking letter for your speaking test time.

5. During the speaking Test

• Arrive at the speaking test venue 45 minutes prior to your scheduled interview time.
• Bring your identity document with you for the speaking test.
• Register with the help desk when you arrive and then wait in the waiting area. The invigilator will then call you for your interview.
• You are not allowed to take anything inside the interview room. Deposit your baggage and cell phones with the invigilator.
• At the beginning of the interview, the examiner will record your name and number in front of you. After this, the interview will begin. Your interview will be recorded for monitoring purposes.
• The speaking interview lasts between 11 to 14 minutes. The examiner is responsible for the timing of the interview.
• When you finish your speaking test, you should leave the test venue immediately. Under no circumstances are you allowed to talk to waiting candidates.

6. General rules and regulations

During the test you must not:

• attempt to cheat, copy the work of another candidate or disrupt the test.
• use or attempt to use, a dictionary, pager, spell-checker, electronic recorder or mobile phone for the duration of the test. Any candidate doing so will be disqualified.
• talk to or disturb other candidates once the examination has started.
• smoke, eat or drink in the examination room. (Water is available at the test venue.)
• reproduce any part of the test in any format/medium. Any candidate doing so will have their test results disqualified and be liable to prosecution.
• remove any materials used during the examination. This includes, but is not limited to, examination papers, answer papers and working paper.

7. Feedback

• If you would like to give us any feedback, please complete the feedback form, which is available at the test venue.

1. Getting your results

• Get an online preview of your test results before your official results arrive at IELTS Results website, 13 days after the test and up to 2 weeks from the official results date.
• Please collect your results from the British Council office after 13 days from the test.
• Candidates are entitled to only receive one original IELTS TRF only and no duplicate TRFs can be issued later.
• We cannot give any information regarding results over the phone or by email.

2. Sending IELTS results to institutions

• Five original TRFs can be mailed free of charge to the institutions such as Universities, Immigration Consultants, Nursing Boards etc. mentioned by you in your application form within one month of the results date. Please note we mail these five TRFs through registered mail.  
• However, if you would like us to send it through courier, you must make an additional payment of KD10 per TRF and clearly mention on the form to which institute you would like us to send it to.
• Candidates requesting that their TRFs be mailed to institutions (in addition to original 5 or after one month of the result date) will be charged KD 15 per TRF.

3. Remarking of IELTS results

• You can request an Enquiry on Result (EoR) if you feel that your test results do not reflect your performance in the test.  This means that your test scripts/tapes will be sent to Cambridge to be re-marked by Senior Examiners.
• The fee for this service is GBP 60 (equivalent in Kuwaiti Dinar) and it is the same whether you ask for one part of the test to be re-marked, or all parts of the test.
• An EoR can only be made within six weeks of the test date. Candidates should make sure that the following complete set of application documents arrives at the Examinations Unit of the British Council before the deadline:
• Enquiry on results form
• Original test report form (TRF)
• If your scores change after the EoR then:
• A new TRF will be issued to the candidate.
• A full refund will be made to the candidate within 15 days of the new TRF being issued.
• If the scores do not change after the EOR then the original TRF will be returned to the candidate.
• There is no appeal after this re-mark. The decision is final. During the period of remarking, the test results are frozen, and cannot be used to apply for a university or to be sent to an immigration office. Any extra TRF application lodged during this period will be regarded as invalid
• This procedure takes six to eight weeks to be completed.
