Business English exams

The Business English Certificate (BEC) and Business Language Testing Service (BULATS) are designed for candidates in the work place.

Business English Certificate (BEC)
The Business English Certificate is available at three levels: Preliminary (lower intermediate), Vantage (upper intermediate) and Higher (advanced). The exams assess your ability to use a range of structures and functions in a business context.

Who can sit for BEC exam?
If you are 16 years old and over and preparing for a business career, a Business English Certificate can help to increase your opportunities. It can also help to improve your prospects if you are already in work.

Business Language Testing Service (BULATS)
If you are recruiting staff or planning a language training programme for your company, BULATS can assess language skills quickly and reliably. BULATS is a multilingual tool for companies and organisations that need a rapid, reliable and cost-effective way of assessing the language skills of your employees, trainees and job applicants. There are four types of BULATS test: standard, computer, speaking and writing. You can try a BULATS demo and test yourself online.

The BULATS marking system
There is no 'pass mark'. All candidates are graded from Level 0 to Level 5. These levels are based on the ALTE (the Association of Language Testers in Europe) Level Framework.
