Kids Read Launch and Community Events

October 2012 saw Kids Read launch for a second consecutive year in 11 participating countries, namely Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, KSA, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar and UAE.

Three internationally renowned UK storytellers visited the region to help launch Kids Read. They were on hand to deliver live storytelling demonstrations with students from the participating schools and also to share their vast experience with the teachers. Their sessions were so lively and entertaining to such an extent that the teachers, principals, HSBC staff and the British Council staff joined in as well.

Community Events

Four Kids Read community events, supported by HSBC Bank Middle East Limited & Affiliates staff volunteers, have been scheduled throughout the year.  These events will be open to the general public and/or wider school community in each country. Each community event will raise awareness of important issues in the world today by being linked to one of the HSBC Corporate Sustainability themes and also a recognised day celebrated across the world.

A typical community event will consist of:

  • Storytelling and accompanying activities
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Competitions and Prizes
  • Workshops for parents on encouraging reading and developing English Language skills
  • Fun!
