The ambiguity contained in a single minute stands as a starting point to a myriad of possibilities. The minute pass midnight potentially reveals infinite dramas that fleet through 60 seconds. The black and white in us dangerously dances through film in the streets of Valletta and through the live bodies in space.

Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake stands as an artistic metaphor that has inspired artists to engage with its narrative and musical content since its original premiere in 1877. The traditional ballet version has remained timeless drawing audiences all around the world to witness great ballerinas succumb to its exacting demands. In the last decade, contemporary choreographers, film makers and fashion designers have created works that have framed themselves on the physiological drama of the Swan; resulting in layers of interpretation that we now identify with.

‘00.00 – 00.01’ a new reading of Swan Lake is the next phase in Khoo’s own personal exploration of this narrative. After a three year research (with a brief preview in London in 2009 at the GFest Festival), the full length 90 minute work premieres at the Malta Arts Festival 2011 as a collaborative anchor between artists from the UK, France and Malta. Mavin Khoo is one of the leading dance artists in the international dance world, having worked with some of the most significant choreographers of today. His own work has been seen on many of the international stages of the world from the Royal Opera House in London to the Venice Biennale. He currently serves as a faculty member at the Dance department at the University of Malta whilst continuing his international touring commitments.

‘00.00 – 00.01’ is commissioned by the Malta Arts Festival 2011 and the British Council.
