Tall Ships, originally from Falmouth but now living in Brighton, have been garnering attention across the blogosphere, printed press and radio with their complex, layered and beautiful soundscapes and intelligent songwriting.

JOE GIDEON & THE SHARK (Friday, 5 October)
London-based brother and sister duo Joe Gideon & The Shark are a sight and sound to behold. Joe Gideon pounds bass and guitar whilst narrating his autobiographical tales of misadventure, and his little sister Viva (The Shark) drives the whole thing along with glorious drums, piano and 8-track, often all at the same time. Meandering through soundscapes that take in beat-fuelled rifforama, voodoo-injected grooves and melodious beauty, their sound is both comfortably spacious and foot-stompingly intense and highly original. Joe Gideon and the Shark released their debut album “Harum Scarum” to critical acclaim in 2009.

ESBEN & THE WITCH (Saturday, 6 October)
The only British band signed to the legendary US label Matador Records (also home to Sonic Youth, Interpol and Cat Power), Esben and the Witch were last year nominated for BBC’s ‘Sound of 2011’ and Q Magazine’s ‘Next Big Thing’. Their debut album “Violet Cries” received worldwide acclaim and made the NME’s Top 50 albums for the first half of the year. The haunting video for their single “The Marching Song” was also nominated for a number of awards as the band undertook a number of festivals slots throughout the summer besides opening for bands like The XX, Foals and Wild Beasts and headlining tours in their own right.
