BRITISH COUNCIL invites community coaches for training course run by premier League coaches

The Premier League’s leading international grassroots project Premier Skills, run in partnership with the British Council is back for its third training component with an ‘Introduction to Coaching’ course.

Sign up for the priceless opportunity to work with three Premier League coaches in a unique and innovative project that demonstrates how football can be used to support the development of social inclusion, health promotion, education and equality.

This six-day, face-to-face training course will take place in Kuala Lumpur from 23 to 29 October at Garden International School, Bukit Kiara. The course is designed to include practical sessions and workshops focusing on a range of topics from community coaching to project development and management skills.

Premier Skills is supported by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

An applicant must:

  • Be over 18.

  • Clearly demonstrate how they will cascade the training they receive to others in their school and/or community.

  • Be medically and physically fit enough to train for four to five hours a day for three days. Candidates will need to sign a declaration to confirm that they are fit enough to participate.

  • Be able to attend the full duration of the programme from 23 to 29 October, if selected. The British Council is able to provide a letter of reference to employers of applicants to facilitate leave if necessary.

    *Participants with some experience in coaching or playing football are preferable


Selected candidates will receive:

  • An introduction to the principles of coaching at grassroots level, led by three Premier League coaches

  • Training in communication skills

  • Training apparel – including jerseys, shorts, socks, and a bag

  • Accommodation and all meals

  • Specially prepared course material

  • Certificate (if his or her attendance is 100%)

  • An opportunity for higher level training (based on impact in the community following the course)


The closing date for applications is Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 6.00pm. Successful applicants will be informed by Friday 7 October 2011.
