What help is available if I have special needs? |
We make every effort to cater for candidates with special needs, to enable them to best understand questions and tasks and to give their answers. It is our aim for the language level of all candidates to be assessed fairly and objectively. Candidates with a permanent disability, such as hearing/sight impairment, dyslexia or a speech impediment; or short-term difficulties (for example, a broken arm) may need arrangements such as modified papers, readers or amanuenses, or extra time. If you require a modified version of the test, e.g. Braille, you must give us three months notice. This notice period is necessary for the modified test version to be prepared. If your circumstances require special administrative arrangements only to be made, e.g. extra time, you must give us six weeks notice. Full details of these arrangements are given on the IELTS website and Cambridge ESOL website. |

I DID MY FCE EXAM IN 1977 AND I NOW WANT TO GO UNIVERSITY AND THEY ARE ASKING ME FOR PROOF OF B2 LEVEL ENGLISH? WILL THIS CERTIFICATE DO? |
From the Cambridge site: http://www.cambridgeesol.org/exams/exams-info/faqs/general.html#14
The simple answer is that once you have obtained a Cambridge ESOL exam (apart from IELTS), this is valid for the rest of your life. However, people forget things, and language skills can become rusty. When employers or educational institutions make a decision on whether to rely on a certificate obtained some years previously, they will need to take into account a number of factors, most importantly whether the holder has kept up his or her use of the language. Search for employers and educational institutions that recognise Cambridge ESOL exams.
Many universities also apply the 2-year from issue of results.

HOW MANY WORDS CAN I GO OVER THE STATED LIMIT IN THE COMPOSITION QUESTIONS? WILL I BE PENALISED IF I WRITE A LOT MORE WORDS THAN I SHOULD? |
You are given guidelines about how much to write, but this is to help you in planning your writing.
If you write considerably more than the guideline, you will only be penalised if the answer contains irrelevance or would have a negative effect on the intended audience. If you write considerably less than the guideline, but still cover the requisite aspects of the task, you will not be penalised.
