Chevening Scholarships in Macedonia
A prestigious award to fund your UK postgraduate studies

The application process for the 2012/13 Chevening scholarships is now closed. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK. It is funded by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and administered by the British Council.

Priority areas

Chevening scholarships are targeted towards a broad range of fields and disciplines that may vary slightly as priority areas are subject to revision each year. This year’s priority areas are as follows:

Political Science, Government and International Relations
Public Administration and Social Policy  
Banking, Finance and Economics
Business and Management (except MBA)
Social Sciences (including human rights)
International security and defence
Justice and home affairs
What the scholarship covers

The scholarship funds full time Master degree programmes only in the UK for one academic year plus the following:

a gratis student visa
all your academic fees (with the exception of business studies)
a monthly allowance to cover living expenses
an arrival and departure allowance to help with travel
a book and clothing allowance  
travel costs to and from the UK.

Note: The Chevening scholarship does not fund undergraduate or PhD studies.

Selection criteria

The Chevening scholarships are very competitive. A typical successful applicant should:

be a graduate with proven academic record, with at least three years of work experience in the chosen field of study;
be committed to return to Macedonia and contribute to the socio-economic development and/or political development by implementing new skills and knowledge acquired in the UK;
be able to show interest in good governance, the political, diplomatic and commercial interests of Macedonia;
be able to show that he/she possesses personal qualities and will benefit from the scholarship thus succeeding in their chosen career;
have a clear idea of how their acquired knowledge will benefit Macedonia upon their return and show that they have the ability to rise to senior and influential positions in public and private sectors;
have excellent English language skills (a minimum of 6.5 IELTS score) to meet the entry requirements for admission onto Postgraduate courses in the UK. For more information regarding the IELTS test, please check our website;
be Macedonian nationals with permanent residence in Macedonia.
Application information
Applications will ONLY be accepted via the online application system. Please read the Easy Step Guide that will help you to complete the application.
Applicants without an IELTS score should input n/a or TBC (To be confirmed) in the application form;
In the application form you will need to list contact details from two referees (and not their references). Referees should be professional and/or academic;
You must also indicate which courses and institutions you wish to study in. You are strongly advised to apply to those institutions before receiving the award, as places on popular courses fill early. For more information on MA courses and institutions, please visit EducationUK;
A medical form will be required once the award has been made;
Incomplete and late applications will not be considered;
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take the IELTS test on 14th January 2012, organised by the British Council, . .
Shortlisted candidates will also be invited to an interview. Dates to be confirmed.

Note: All additional documents and references (1 passport-size photograph, transcript of exams and transcript of the diploma (translated and verified copy by an authorised translator), and 2 references (either in English or translated and verified copies) will be requested from candidates who are successful after the first selection stage. Therefore, please do not submit any supporting documentation during the application period.

Interviews

The British Embassy makes the final decision on awarding the Chevening scholarships. Candidates are assessed on academic merit; achievements to date both in and outside of the academic and workplace areas; referees' letters; proposed area of study and future career in line with FCO priority areas; leadership potential and potential to further strengthen the British-Macedonian bilateral relations.
