To check how your own qualifications compare with UK qualifications you can contact us or write to the UK National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC). If you are considering studying in Scotland, contact the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Each individual college and university makes its own decisions about which international qualifications to accept, but checking beforehand will give you a general idea of what to expect.
Although there are no direct equivalencies between the university grading systems in Iran and the UK, the table below should provide you with a rough guide for comparison:
If you wish to study for a degree in the UK and have an Iranian school-leaving certificate (Diploma), it is unlikely you will be offered a place directly on an undergraduate course. You will usually be asked to successfully complete a two year pre-University course, such as A-Levels, which will allow you entry into most University programmes. Alternatively you could enrol in a one year foundation or access course designed by universities for a specific degree programme. This option may save you time but will limit you in choice of programme.
If you have passed the 'Pish Daneshgahi' with good marks and have good knowledge of English, you may be accepted on a first degree course. However, we would still advise you to consider doing an Access year. A first degree with good grades from an Iranian university is usually accepted by UK universities as a basis for acceptance for postgraduate studies (provided all other criteria are met).
