In Europe content and language integrated learning (CLIL) has been expanding as a variety of  approaches to language teaching. CLIL is believed to contribute to the linguistic and cognitive development of the learners. Our Project intends to encourage and support Lithuanian schools taking up CLIL as an innovative approach to language teaching.

The project aims to assist the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science in promoting CLIL in Lithuanian schools as innovative approach to language teaching. The project activities include teacher development seminars and networking events for English language and other subject teachers.

The events organised by the British Council in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science include:

8-9 December 2006
CLIL Conference and Publication Launch

Series of events with a focus on the development of teaching content through the medium of English:

  • Two focus group meetings of 16 teachers and trainers from institutions around the country looking at `the next step' for the CLIL project in Lithuania. The group discussed how to take the project into teacher education at pre and in-service levels.
  • Lesson observations at Kaunas Kalnieciai Secondary School and Siauliai Didzdvaris Gymnasium.
  • Seminars to teachers from around Kaunas and Siauliai regions. The participants were seven school teams of three in Kaunas and eight teams in Siauliai (48 teachers total).
