Professional Development Programme

In 1993-2002 the British Council in Lithuania ran the Professional Development Programme (PDP). The participants were 24 teacher trainers, coming from 19 different towns in Lithuania.

The programme aimed:

  • to improve in-service training of teachers of English through co-operation with the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science and regional teacher-development institutions;
  • to ensure teacher training quality and promote trainers who received training in the UK or as part of previous British Council projects;
  • to assist professional growth of the programme participants by organising regular trainer training seminars.

The programme participants have reached a large number of unqualified, requalifying and qualified teachers in even quite remote part of the country. These trainers also are the British Council key contacts to inform local teachers of forthcoming events and opportunities in Lithuania and beyond.
