Integrated Training for Peace Support and Security Management (ITPSSM) is an initiative of the British Council Peacekeeping English Project. ITPSSM is a unique English language training event which develops / advances verbal language skills (meeting, discussion, negotiation and presentation) in areas of key professional concern. See the historic overview.
ITPSSM is targeted at senior and middle management of peace support and security operations within military and security service/interior ministries. The entry level is lower-intermediate English (B1) / Stanag 2. Each event is set for up to 32 officers: host country (up to 15) and international (up to 17).
ITPSSM:
improves participants’ operational knowledge of English, esp. meeting skills, in order to efficiently fulfill peace support and other cross-border job functions within the NATO and EU security networks; |
creates an intensive international learning environment which directly encourages international discussion on areas of key professional concern to the services; |
leads to better professional cooperation and, more significantly, to lasting and positive international contacts between senior and middle management of these services; |
advances English training professionals’ skills and experience in language project development and management (PDM) in order to efficiently respond to varied and specific language training needs of own agencies. |
ITPSSM is conducted by a team of highly experienced and British Council trained international English language trainers, all of whom are also military, police or border guard staff with full professional knowledge of the language needs of European defence and / or interior ministry forces. In each event, the team consists of up to 12 teachers of whom up to 50% are from the host country.
65 hours of integrated English language instruction over 6 study days, which
incorporates up to 45 hrs of classroom instruction and self-access study, and 15 hrs of social English practice; |
is needs based as result of a thorough participants’ needs analysis; |
consists of core thematic modules of key professional concern to uniformed services. |
By the end of the event these senior and middle managers will have:
advanced their professional and social English communication skills; |
have explored various learning modules and learnt how they integrate to foster language learning; |
have extended cross sector and border professional contacts and networks; |
have promoted cross-cultural dialogue. |
Since the British Council PEP ITPSSM project closes on 31 March 2009, all events after the date will be organised by European law enforcement agencies independently.
