COUNCIL OF EUROPE LANGUAGE LEVELS
Cambridge English Key
KET

WHY DO KET?
If you are just starting to learn English you might feel you have a long way to go before you are comfortable in an English speaking situation. It can be quite demoralising to spend so much time studying with so little to show for it - especially when your opportunities to use English in real situations are limited. The Key English Test can help by giving you a specific and achievable first target to aim for.

When you pass KET you have the personal satisfaction of knowing that you speak enough English to survive in everyday situations and are making significant progress towards your ultimate goal. As well as this, your employer can see that you are serious about your study and are giving it the time and effort it needs.

KET is the first of five levels in the Cambridge Main Suite of English language exams. It corresponds to Council of Europe Level A2 and the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) Level 1.

WHAT THE EXAM INVOLVES
There are three parts to the exam:

Paper 1 Reading and Writing 70 minutes 50 marks
Paper 2 Listening 25 minutes 25 marks
Paper 3 Speaking 8-10 minutes 25 marks

For more information about the format and examples of the exam, see the official Cambridge ESOL Handbook.

GETTING THE RESULTS
