COUNCIL OF EUROPE LANGUAGE LEVELS
Cambridge English First
FCE

WHY DO FCE?
With over 250,000 people taking FCE every year, it is one of the most popular international English language qualifications in the world. It is widely recognised by employers and educational institutions in many countries as proof of language ability at an intermediate level.

In Lithuania FCE is equivalent to the school leaving exam in English. Secondary school leavers who hold FCE are exempted from the school leaving exam in English.

FCE is the third of five levels in the Cambridge Main Suite of English language exams. It corresponds to Council of Europe level B2 and the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) Level 3.

WHAT THE EXAM INVOLVES
There are five parts to the exam, each worth 40 marks:

Paper 1 Reading 75 minutes
Paper 2 Writing 90 minutes
Paper 3 Use of English 75 minutes
Paper 4 Listening 40 minutes
Paper 5 Speaking 14 minutes

For more information about format and examples of the exam, see the official Cambridge ESOL Handbook.

GETTING YOUR RESULTS
All written papers are sent to Cambridge to be marked and results are released approximately eight weeks after the exam date. They will be sent to the British Council and we will forward them to your home adress.

There are three passing grades: A, B and C and two failing grades: D and E.

A candidate needs to obtain 60 to 65 per cent of total marks in order to obtain a C grade. There is no minimum pass mark for the individual papers.

Students who achieve grades A to C will receive a certificate approximately one month after receiving their results.
