Frequently Asked Questions
All you might have thought of!
Do I have to register for the exam in person?
Another person may bring your application form with a copy of your ID or passport and pay the fee. However, you, the candidate, must sign the application form so it is preferable that you also fill in the details on the form yourself.
What happens if I can not attend the exam?

You will be counted as absent, i.e. this test will not be counted as a test taken. Please note that you will not receive a refund unless you have given five weeks notice in person. If you notify us of your cancellation at least five weeks prior to the test date, we will be able to give you a full refund less administration charges.

If you fall ill on the day of the exam, you will need to provide us with a medical report from a legitimate hospital in order to be eligible for a postponement. This report needs to be submitted to the British Council at least 48 hours after the test date.

What should I do if I want to postpone?
If you wish to postpone your test, you must inform our Examination Services department in writing at least five weeks prior to the test date.
What time should I arrive on the day of the exam?
You must arrive by 0830. If you arrive later, you risk not being admitted into the examining room.
What should I bring with me?
Please bring the ID card or passport that you used while registering for the test, and pen, pencil and eraser. You may also wish to bring a small bottle of water.
What time does the exam finish?
The exam is normally carried out over two days. The first day you do the Listening, Reading and Writing modules which take about 3 hours and a half. The Speaking module, which lasts about an hour and a half including the waiting time, takes place on the following working day.
When will I get my results?

Results are available 13 days after the written test date. Your can also see your results online at http://ielts-results.britishcouncil.org

Is there any difference between taking IELTS in Lebanon and taking the test in another country?
There are no differences in terms of the test format or test assessment. However, test fees may differ slightly. Some candidates may prefer taking the test in their home country because they feel less nervous.
What shall I do if I have any special needs?

The IELTS test makes every effort to cater for special needs of any disabled candidates, to enable them to best understand questions and tasks and complete the test. It is our aim for the language level of all candidates, irrespective of disability, to be assessed fairly and objectively.

If candidates have any special needs such as visual difficulties or hearing difficulties, special IELTS test arrangements can be made including modified test materials and special administrative arrangements. Please call the British Council at least 3 months before the test date.

Relevant supporting materials (medical certificate and/or disability certificate) should be submitted as well.
