International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) - is for legal staff that needs English to be able to communicate with clients and professionals in other countries, and to be able to deal effectively with material written in English.

ILEC is based on realistic tasks and topics that legal practitioners might expect to encounter in their daily working lives.

AM I ABLE TO SIT FOR THIS EXAM?
Many candidates take a preparation course before entering for the Cambridge ILEC exam. If you are studying English at the moment, speak to your teacher about preparing for Cambridge ILEC. If you are not studying at the moment, please contact our office and we will be able to advise you about our preparation courses.
WHAT DOES IT TEST?

The exam consists of four separate papers

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • listening
  • speaking

The duration of the exam is just under 3.5 hours (not including breaks).

The Speaking test is conducted face-to-face by a Cambridge ESOL Oral Examiner and maybe on different date as of the writing test. You will receive a schedule with your speaking appointment at least 2 weeks before the examination.

WHEN CAN I DO THE TEST AND HOW ARE RESULTS SCALED?

Candidates must register anytime prior to the above dates.

Test results are normally issued six weeks after the test date. Levels of performance in the exam are distinguished by a range of passing and failing grades.

The passing grades are B2 Pass, C1 Pass and C1 Pass with Merit.

All candidates receive a Statement of Results showing their overall grade and their performance on each of the four papers. Candidates who achieve a passing grade will also receive a certificate awarded by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

HOW CAN I REGISTER?
  • Complete the application form with your full details and write your name as it should appear on the certificate.
  • Attach one recent photograph
  • Attach VALID proof of your identity at registration
  • Make sure to hand in the completed application form along with the correct payment to our reception in our premises before the test and by the mentioned deadline for each test session.
HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR THE TEST?
UNIVERSITIES AND SCHOOLS
If you have more than 25 students then we can organise the exam at your premises. Extra dates are available and we offer a discount. Please contact us by e-mail at the beginning of the school year or as soon as possible.
SPECIAL NEEDS

We aim to do our best to cater for candidates with special needs.  We will do all we can to enable candidates to understand test questions and ways of giving answers. All candidates, irrespective of their disability, will be assessed fairly and objectively.

Candidates who require special arrangements are asked to contact us before they submit their application. Relevant supporting materials such as medical certificates should be submitted during registration.
