Developing a partnership in China

The British Council has been establishing working relationships and contributing to government VET projects and reforms. Here we provide some examples of our role in developing these relationships in a number of regions in China.

Hubei:

  • promote Sino-UK joint venture educational programmes, with the aim of accelerating co-operation in curriculum and materials development
  • promote the exchange of teachers and students between vocational education institutions in the UK and Hubei
  • develop vocational teacher education in Hubei; develop the capacity of principals of vocational institutions in Hubei
  • introduce UK vocational qualifications into Hubei

Guangzhou: develop student-centred learning methodology.

Guangdong : The focus until now has been on student-centred learning. There is now a refocusing on UK vocational awards, and a delegation will shortly be visiting the UK to further explore this issue.

Wuhan: training up to 100 ELT teachers from vocational institutions in Hubei province

Liaoning Province: co-operating with the British Council on the development of the vocational education system.

Chongqing: a delegation from the construction industry in Chongqing spent 10 days in the UK looking at various aspects of the industry.  The visit relates to a major construction project, currently underway in the city.  The British Council and the Chongqing Construction Commission are partners in the project, supported in the delivery by the Chartered Institute of Building, Chongqing University and the Chongqing Construction Industry Association.  The project aims to introduce competence-based assessment for site managers into construction companies in Chongqing.
