BritLit

Using literature in the ELT classroom

The aim of BritLit is to help teachers from around the world to exploit English literature in the ELT classroom. Here you can find a range of materials based around the works of various authors.

Each BritLit resource kit contains a range of materials to help students understand the context of the literature as well as the language and the works themselves.

Many of the packs contain complete texts, tasks for students , teachers' notes as well as audio recordings of interviews with the authors and readings of the text.

Fever Pitch - Nick Hornby

'Fever Pitch' is one of Nick Hornby's most popular works. Choosing it for BritLit meant a departure from the norm, if by the norm we mean the extensive reading list provided by the Portuguese Ministry of Education. The reason that BritLit chose this book was because the final tournament of the UEFA Cup, Euro 2004, was hosted by Portugal, and BritLit wanted to be part of the game.

'Fever Pitch' traces the story of the author from his first introduction to Arsenal Football Club through the trials and tribulations of over two decades as a devoted fan. Some read the book as a book about football. Some would say that the book is not about football at all, but about obsession, and about growing up. Whatever the reality, it has something for everyone, from the football sceptic to the passionate fan.

Please note this Brit Lit package contains an extract from the novel only, not the complete text.
