LearnEnglish Elementary podcasts / Podcast 07 Home

The LearnEnglish Elementary Podcast is like a radio magazine programme. There are seven or eight different parts or articles in each programme.

With each programme, you can:

  1. Listen to the podcast
  2. Practise your English
  3. Read the transcript - see what they say

LearnEnglish Elementary Podcasts are for learners at Elementary level or who are who are trying reach CEF Level A2 (Council of Europe Framework of Reference). For this trial period, we will publish a new podcast every month.

  • or save it to listen to later or to transfer to your mp3 player,
  • or subscribe to the podcast where future podcasts are saved automatically

We recommend that you save the file so that you can:

  • listen to the entire podcast once, and then
  • listen to the various sections when you have the time to practise.

2: Practise your English with Elementary podcast 07

You can practise your English either on paper (via our 'Support Pack') or online.

  • To use the Support Pack, you have to download it, save it to your computer, and then print it off. The Support Pack is approximately 16 pages, and has exercises and answers for all the sections.

Section 1 - Conversations in English:

Learn how to speak/practise speaking about your family and other people's families.

Section 2 - I’d like to meet
This section starts: 02mins.32secs into the podcast
Listen to Muhammed talking about why he would like to meet Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr. Muhammed Yunus.

Practice materials (in Support Pack or online):
Write about a Nobel Prize winner or other famous person that you’d like to meet

Section 3 -  Quiz
This section starts: 06mins.40secs into the podcast
The quiz in this podcast is called ‘Beginning with…’ – for example, ‘think of an animal beginning with ‘p’ – the answer could be ‘polar bear’ or ‘pig’ – there are lots of possibilities.

Think of words in different categories starting with different letters.

Section 4 - Our person in ...
This section starts: 09mins.50secs into the podcast
Listen to Susan Harold talking about the taxis in Cairo.

In ‘Your Turn’, you hear 5 people answer the question "What’s the best way to travel?"

Looks at the word 'sounds' and 'looks', as well as some 'false friends'.
