The LearnEnglish Elementary Podcast is like a radio magazine programme. There are seven or eight different parts or articles in each programme.

With each programme, you can:

  1. Listen to the podcast
  2. Practise your English
  3. Read the transcript - see what they say

LearnEnglish Elementary Podcasts are for learners at Elementary level or who are who are trying reach CEF Level A2 (Council of Europe Framework of Reference). For this trial period, we will publish a new podcast every month.

  • listen to it on your computer now,
  • or save it to listen to later or to transfer to your mp3 player,
  • or subscribe to the podcast where future podcasts are saved automatically

We recommend that you save the file so that you can:

  • listen to the entire podcast once, and then
  • listen to the various sections when you have the time to practise.

2: Practise your English with Elementary podcast 02

You can practise your English either on paper (via our 'Support Pack') or online.

  • To use the Support Pack, you have to download it, save it to your computer, and then print it off. The Support Pack is approximately 16 pages, and has exercises and answers for all the sections.

2: PRACTISE YOUR ENGLISH SECTION-BY-SECTION

Section 1 - Conversations in English:

“Where did you go?” – a weekend away

We often speak to friends about what they've done since we last saw them – at work, about the weekend, for example.  But we don't only ask questions - we also make comments about what they say to show interest and keep the conversation going.

Learn how to speak/practise speaking about what people have done since you last saw them

Section 2 - I’d like to meet
This section starts: 02mins.00secs into the podcast
Listen to Yasmin talking about why she would like to meet Shakira.

Write about a famous singer that you’d like to meet

Section 3 -  Quiz
This section starts: 06mins.00secs into the podcast
In the quiz, Ben and Poppy play Hot Seat, where one person explains words and the other person tries to guess what they are.

Match words and phrases to make clues, and clues to make answers.

Section 4 - Our person in ...

Listen to Rachel talking about tango dancing in Buenos Aires.

Section 5 - Your turn

In ‘Your Turn’, you hear 5 people answer the question "Which do you prefer – songs in English or songs in your language?"
