1930's semi-detached houses

THE HOUSING ISSUE

When you think of UK homes, what do you imagine? How many of your ideas are based on the living rooms you see in UK soap operas? Maybe you see the homes of the rich, with studded leather sofas, marble floored halls, and the stuffed heads of hunted deer on oak panelled walls?

This issue we want to blow away some cobwebs and reveal a country that is living in the 21st Century. Forget the brick terraces in smoky cities, the commuter homes in boring suburbs, the old fashioned mansions in the country. We want to show you a nation that is changing its living rooms, kitchens, bathroom walls, wooden floors, front doors, cupboard doors, table lamps and kitchen drawers - a place where we are surrounding our daily lives with modern materials, energy-saving technology and revolutionary new ideas.

So, come and take a look. And welcome to our new home.

All the texts in this issue (including Spotlights) are accompanied by language activities.
