Spotlight - what is your favourite game of all time?  We asked some people for their choices.

Sims Fan

The Sims

The Sims is brilliant. You can control a character and shape their life. It’s really addictive. At the moment, my character has just got a new job and I built them a really nice new house.

The only improvement I'd make is that I wish there was an adult version, where you could break the law because I never do that in real life and sometimes I wonder what it would feel like. I mean, wouldn't you like to know what it's like to commit a crime and see if you could get away with it?

Another games fan

Black and White

My favourite game is Black and White. You play a god, and you compete with other gods to make as many people as possible across a range of islands and countries believe in you either by winning the respect and love of the people or terrorising your subjects until they bow down. Hence the name: black and white, yin and yang, good and evil.

I loved this game and I used to play it far too much. In fact, I played it so much that I have had to give the game to my brother, to stop me playing it all the time.

Sonic fan

Sonic

I’m not really that bothered about new games; they’re so expensive and once I’ve played them for a while, I just get bored of them.  I tend to play old games over and over. Like Tetris and Sonic. Sometimes I play Tetris so much that when I go to sleep, I can dream of the shapes. Sonic is pretty good too.

My fiancé says playing games like this is childish, but I don’t care, I just find it really relaxing to come home from work and play it for a bit.  I can just switch off and relax.

A getaway fan

Getaway

I like the Getaway because you can do two really cool things in it; drive around London like a maniac and have gun fights. It’s really violent. They mapped out the main roads and buildings in London so you can recognise places like Trafalgar Square, Birdcage Walk, Big Ben and so on.

It’s great because you can do this thing called 'free roaming' which is just driving around London. I drove to the building where my brother used to live.

An elite fan.

Elite

The best game I’ve ever played was called Elite. It’s a real classic. It might not have fancy graphics or sounds like games have today, but it doesn’t need them; it has so much playability. Playability is a thing which is hard to classify. It’s basically how much fun a game is to play.  Anyway, I remember when I got Elite when it came out, years ago, I played it so much I wore the keyboard of my ZX Spectrum out. They should re-make it for modern computers, that would be great.

Way of the exploding fist fan

Way of the Exploding Fist

My favourite game was called 'Way of the Exploding Fist'.

It was an old Spectrum and Commodore64 game and was the first martial arts 'beat'emup' game I ever played, back in 1984 or something like that. I used to play it for hours as a kid.

Modern games like Tekken wouldn't exist without such 'golden oldies'.
