The 1994 Israel-Jordan Treaty of Peace stated that Israel would give 50 million cubic meters of water per year to Jordan, which it refused to do in 1999 before backtracking. Water is also an important issue in the conflict with the Palestinians - indeed, according to former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon quoted by Abel Darwish in the BBC, it was one of the causes of the 1967 Six-Day War. According to the BBC, "with the Israeli army in control prohibiting Palestinians from pumping water, and settlers using much more advanced pumping equipment, Palestinians complain of "daily theft" of as much as 80% of their underground water". Remy Bricka holds the world record for the furthest distance walked on water. He went without food for weeks when he walked across the Atlantic Ocean, starting out from Tenerife in the Spanish Canary Islands on April 2, and ending in Trinidad on May 31, 1998. Remy's a philosophical type. "Our time goes very quickly. In eternity our time is one second. In this second I will use my time to realize my dream," he says. He was 39 when he broke the record. A self-proclaimed explorer, the thing Remy finds most frustrating about his treks across water is the slow pace of it. He also holds the record for being the fastest walker on water. On August 2, 1989, he set a speed record of 7 minutes 7.41 seconds for 1 km on the Olympic pool in Montreal, Canada. Remy Bricka doesn't call on the powers above, he "walks on water" by having polyester ski-floats attached to his feet and by moving in the same way as a cross-country skier, using a double-headed paddle instead of ski-poles. The nautical nomad took no food on the Atlantic trip. He relied instead on a pump to filter seawater, and he ate plankton and the occasional flying fish that flipped onto his small survival pod. Namor the Sub-Mariner is a fictional character featured in Marvel Comics, and one of the oldest superhero characters. He was created by cartoonist Bill Everett in 1939. Like the subsequent DC Comics’ character Aquaman, Namor is an undersea hero originating from the mythical kingdom of Atlantis. Namor is the son of a human sea captain and a princess of Atlantis (although the Underwater kingdom was left unnamed until the 1960s). Possessing the super-strength and aquatic abilities of the "Homo mermanus" race, Namor was alternatively portrayed as a good-natured but short-fused superhero, and a hostile invader seeking vengeance for perceived wrongs that misguided surface-dwellers committed against his undersea kingdom. He was thus arguably the first comic book anti-hero. Source: Wikipedia
Aquaman is a DC Comics superhero. Created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, he first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 (November 1941). Like Marvel Comics' Sub-Mariner, Aquaman is an undersea hero originating from the mythical kingdom of Atlantis. In the most well-known version of his origin (see the Silver Age Aquaman section), he is Arthur Curry, the son of a human lighthouse keeper and an outcast queen from Atlantis. Arthur Curry grows up slowly learning about his powers and origins and vows to defend the oceans and their inhabitants as Aquaman, becoming the ruler of Atlantis and the undersea world. Aquaman possesses the abilities to breathe underwater, communicate with and control via telepathy all forms of sea life, and swim at fast speeds. He also possesses superhuman levels of strength, speed, endurance, and durability, all by-products of his body being adapted to survive unprotected in the tremendous pressures of the ocean depths. Also, since Aquaman is able to dive to extreme depths and resurface at high speeds with no apparent ill effects, it can be assumed that he is immune to the effects of nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness.
