Thing
Bombay Duck is a delicacy eaten as an accompaniment to curry. It is not actually duck at all, but dried fish (also called bummalo, Bombay Duck is a marine lizardfish, Harpodon nehereus, from southern Asia, particularly abundant in the Ganges Delta and the Arabian Sea of western India). It is usually served fried and has an acquired pungent taste adored by curry lovers. The origin of the name is somewhat of a mystery. One theory is that during the British Raj, the Europeans could not stand the smell of the fish drying in the sun. It reminded them of the odour of the wooden railroad cars of the Bombay Mail train, which … turned musty and pungent during the monsoon. The Hindi word for mail is "dak", hence the Bombay-Dak, or Bombay-Duck. Read more

Song
The Indian National Anthem (English translation)

Thou art the rulers of the minds of allpeople,
dispenser of India's destiny.
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab,Sind, Gujarat and Maratha,
Of the Dravida and Orissa and Bengal;

mingles in the music of Yamuna and Ganga
and is chanted by the waves of the Indian Sea.

The saving of all people waits in thy hand,thou dispenser of India's destiny,
Victory, victory, victory to thee.

Date
October 31, 1984: Prime Minister Indira Ghandi, the dominant figure in Indian politics for over two decades, was assassinated by Sikh separatists. The assassins were two members of her own bodyguard who riddled her body with gunfire as she walked from her home to her office. Other guards killed one assassin and wounded the other. Resolutely pursuing her goal of a united India, Ghandi had ordered the attack on the Sikh's Golden Temple in Punjab, a center for Sikh separatist activities. Her assassination was Sikh retaliation for that attack. Source: CNN
