Charities

History
The Salvation Army, USA, has raised more funds annually than any other charity for eight consecutive years. In the year ending September 1999 it raised $1,402 million, the highest amount of money it has ever raised. Founded in the UK in 1865, the Salvation Army has expanded globally, with the US branch raising the highest funds. Today, new programs addressing contemporary needs have been established, such as disaster relief services, day care centers, summer camps, holiday assistance, services for senior citizens, hospitals and medical facilities, shelters for battered wives and children, family and career counseling, vocational training, and drug rehabilitation.
