Café Scientifique is an event in which scientific issues and their impact on people's lives are discussed informally, involving scientists and non-scientists alike. The aim is to inform and to provoke discussion about the connections between science, technology and society.
The events take place in public spaces. Usually an expert gives a short talk about a thought provoking science issue and encourages debate amongst the audience afterwards.
Recently we hosted two events in our Information Centre.
“Gene Machine” got the audience to think about the answer to questions like "How much would I want to know about my unborn baby?" and "Would I like to know my genetic profile?"
“The Nanoworld: Great Benefit or a Danger?” aimed to answer questions like "What is the reality of nanotechnology?" and "What are the prospects and how far off are some of the newest ideas?"
The next events are planned for February. If you would like to be informed subscribe to our enews!
