DIGITAL MUSIC MARKETING

How to create digital and creative content that works on and offline

Young Creative Entrepreneur Club (YCE Club) networking event #7 will take place on 1st of December, 2011 at Birojnīca, ¼ Satori, Berga Bazārs from 10:30 - till 12:30 followed by workshop for selected creative industries professionals of diverse backgrounds like music, interactive and digital communications, design, fashion, performing arts, filmmaking and media.

This time YCE Club will welcome two experienced professionals Jane Pollard and Ian Forsyth from the United Kingdom who has worked across different creative industries. They started as visual artists with their work being exhibited internationally and collected by major institutions including the Tate Gallery and Government Art Collection in the UK. Later on they both entered music industry and have created online and offline campaigns for leading record labels in the UK. YCE Club #7 will also host Inese Saulaja, YCE Music award 2011 winner, hip-hop artist Gustavo Manager & Copyright Manager of MicRec Publishing.

JANE POLLARD  is Head of Strategy at Beggars Group , the UK’s largest group of independent record labels – Her job is to devise innovative and creative strategies of marketing and promoting the artists including Radiohead, Pixies, The White Stripes, The National, Adele. Jane has won 5 Digital Music Awards and contributed to successfully re-shaping the company’s approach to digital strategy.

IAIN FORSYTH  has worked as Head of Digital at the Mute label  for 10 years and recently established himself as an independent consultant to the music industry. Throughout time Ian worked for Mute, he has worked closely with a wide range of artists including Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Moby, Erasure and Richard Hawley. In 2004 he co-founded Live Here Now, a live concert recording distribution company, now a part of Abbey Road Studios. As a consultant, he continues to work with many Mute artists.

The subject of digital and creative strategies for the entire creative industries nowadays is a core tool for marketing & promoting their work. Therefore Jane and Ian's expertise and knowledge sharing will be appealing to a wide range of the professionals and entrepreneurs representing creative industries in Latvia.

10.35 Inese Saulāja, winner the British Council International Young Music Entrepreneurs Award 2011 http://www.creativeeconomy.lv/iyie-award-final/iyme-award-2011/  will share her learning points and highlights acquired during her UK music industry tour, which she undertook in May 2011. In the UK Inese visited The Great Escape festival in Brighton as well as Soundcloud, Roundhouse offices in London among many others.

11.20 Presentation from Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard,

For the past 10 years Iain & Jane have each worked in the music industry specialising in digital and creative ideas that span on and offline. However, they come from a visual arts and filmmaking background, working together and exhibiting internationally. In their presentation they will discuss their approaches to the creation and distribution of “creative content”, and the shared principles that underpin their groundbreaking work.

Part 2 Workshop for invited participants only  

13.30  (10 min.) Workshop brief by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard.

Problem solving task and/or challenge allocation to groups. Participants are split into groups of five with mixed professional backgrounds. The task is to develop digital marketing activity for chosen project.

13.50 Work in groups, supervised and monitored by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard

15.00 Project presentations. Each group has 5 minutes. Immediate feedback from Iain Forsyth, Jane Pollard, Guna Zucika and Inese Saulaja.

Young Creative Entrepreneurs Programme

Young Creative Entrepreneurs Club is a part of the wider British Council’s Creative and Cultural Economy programme.  The programme recognises the centrality of creative entrepreneurs to the development of a sustainable and competitive creative economy. They provide the essential bridge between talent and consumers; they navigate the space between creative ideas and the market. This programme aims to identify them, support them, create opportunities for commercial and collaborative exchange and encourage ongoing networking

In Latvia YCE is delivered for 3 years and its strategic partner is Stockholm School of Economics in Riga  , marketing partner DDB Latvia  and digital partner CUBE . YCE Club event on December 1st is co-organised in partnership with music consultancy agency KN3.

YCE Club brings together creative entrepreneurs across different creative sectors and creates an open platform of opportunities for cultural and business exchange as well as networking between Latvia and the United Kingdom. Programme consists of different seminars, master classes, guest lectures and workshops with an aim to create opportunities for commercial and collaborative exchange and encourage ongoing networking. Each year within the programme British Council launches Young Creative Entrepreneur Awards for entrepreneurs working in creative sectors.

Deadline for registration is November 25th, 5pm. Please, make reservation in advance as the numbers of the seats is limited. British Council will send confirmation e-mail to participants. The language of the event is English without translation.
