TWO PARTICIPANTS REPRESENTED LATVIA IN THE NETWORK EFFECT FORUM IN  PRISHTINA

Two young active professionals from Latvia Andris Ceksters and Liene Jurgelane took part in British Council’s international forum in Prishtina, Kosovo in May 27 - 30, 2009. The topic of the forum was ‘Education in Europe’. The event included challenging programme of debates, real life visits and creative problem-solving activities.

Around 35 young and enthusiastic professionals from Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden came together in order to address a diverse range of issues like:

  • How does education serve the needs of Europe?
  • How can education cater for an unpredictable future?
  • What are the expected roles of educational institutes?
  • What is expected of teachers and knowledge producers?
  • Is education the key to individual and global success?
  • What is expected of the learner?
  • Who is responsible for education?
  • Has education system been adapted to the changing world?
  • How can education impact economic growth and wealth?
  • What makes a successful education system?

And the issues will try to answer one single question: ‘What sort of Europe do we want to live in?’

“The top 10 jobs that will be in highest demand in 2010 did not exist in 2004 …so we are currently preparing students for jobs that do not yet exist … using technologies that have not yet been invented … in order to solve problems we have not yet identified …” (from Microsoft presentation)
