Dreams + Teams (D+T) is an international programme that aims to develop leadership and cross-cultural awareness in young people through sport and international educational links. There are currently 45 countries active in the project.
The project has three main strands: a leadership development in young people programme for teachers, a leadership through sport training programme for 14 – 19 year olds and the development of school links with schools in the UK.
In Latvia the project started in 2006 and is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science.

All project schools have had several sports and arts festivals organised by Young Leaders for smaller kids from their own and neighbouring schools. Young leaders have set up their D+T clubs and are extensively involved in charity work in their towns. They have also established school links with British schools and have been on exchange visits. All young leaders have become active citizens. (link to photos)
Through INSETT programme supported by MoES, Curriculum and Examinations Centre and in cooperation with State Youth Initiative Centre we have trained 96 teachers and 175 young leaders in Ludza, Saldus, Daugavpils, Balvi, Limbaži and Riga.
In cooperation with Youth NGO Avantis we took part in “ZZ čempionāts” and presented D+T Young leader course as a prize to the two most successful schools in creative essay competition. The two winner schools are: Līvāni Secondary school No 1 ( www.livanu1vsk.lv ) and Liepāja Secondary school No 5 ( www.dalp5vsk.lv ). From 15-18 September twenty-seven eleven formers from Livani school were trained in leadership skills and as a part of this training they organised a sports festival for pupils from 2nd and 3rd grades. (link to photos) The training and festival in Liepaja school is planned for November.
One of the highlight events this summer was Young Leaders’ camp which was held on 17-20 August in Aluksne State Gymnasium where 76 young leaders and 8 teachers from the 7 project schools took part. Participants extended their leadership knowledge, learned about EU programme “Youth in Action”, planned their D+T club activities and engaged in charity work. (link to photos)
So far in the programme we have trained 3 D+T Teacher Trainers (Renāta Kaļivoda, Anita Auziņa and Vita Valdmane), 115 D+T Teachers, more than 500 Young Leaders and more than 5000 children have taken part in the festivals organised by Young Leaders. We have also extended the programme to Jelgava, Madona, Daugavpils, Ērgļi and Bauska.
Currently we are looking for possibilities to offer the D+T training to more teachers and young people in Latvia. Please follow the information on our webpage.
