Dreams + Teams (D+T) is an international programme that aims to develop leadership and cross-cultural awareness in young people through sport and international educational links. There are currently 45 countries active in the project.
The project has two main strands: a leadership through sport training programme for 14 – 19 year olds and the development of school links with schools in the UK.
In Latvia the project started in 2006 and is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science.
Currently 7 schools are successfully involved in the programme:

All schools have had festivals which were organised by Young Leaders for smaller kids from their own and neighbouring schools. They have also established school links with British schools and have been on or are planning exchange visits. Up to now we have trained 8 D+T teachers, 160 Young Leaders and approximately 900 children have taken part in the festivals organised by Young Leaders. One of the highlight events last year was Young Leaders’ camp which was held in October in Rugāji Secondary school where young leaders from Aluksne, Dobele, Pumpuri and Rugaji schools extended their leadership knowledge and organised sports festival for children from socially disadvantaged families.
Our aim is to expand the network of the schools and of young people who are active young citizens and positive young role models. Thus we are developing 3 D+T Lead Trainers who will be able to train teachers all over Latvia to work with young people according to the D+T programme. We are also looking for partners who could take D+T programme forward in Latvia.
If you would like more information about D+T in Latvia or would like to join the programme, please contact our Project Manager Sandra Prince. For more information on what is going on in the project worldwide, please visit the D+T website.
