We also have opportunities for graduates of any discipline in China for which there is no language requirement.

If you want to be an assistant, but have no language skills, you may be able to apply to be a Comenius Assistant. This programme exists in most European countries, but not outside Europe.

For most countries, you are invited to indicate three area preferences. Along with our partners, we will do our utmost to take your area preferences into consideration but all applicants are expected to be flexible regarding exact location in each country.

We do not have a language assistant programme with any other country apart from those listed below.

Austria
Posts in Austria are open to undergraduates and graduates for a whole academic year. There are a very limited number of 1st and 2nd semester posts available for undergraduates. Austria is ideal if you speak German and want to experience life in a country rich in culture in close proximity to the mountains. Find out more about our posts in Austria.
Belgium
There are approximately seven posts in Belgium. Undergraduates who are studying French at a UK university and for whom it is compulsory to spend a year abroad will be given priority over graduates.  A post in Belgium is ideal if you speak French and want to experience life in a European country other than France. Canada
We offer around 32 posts in rural Quebec.  So if you are an outgoing, confident undergraduate or a graduate who speaks French, likes the outdoor life and wants to experience the unique blend of North American and French culture, a post in Canada could be right for you.
China
Posts in China are open to graduates only.  There is no foreign language requirement, but you must be adventurous, confident and adaptable to adjust to life in a culture totally different to that of the UK. Find out more about our posts in China.
France
Posts in France are available to undergraduates and graduates of any discipline as long as you have AS level French or equivalent. We have posts all across urban and rural France as well as Corsica and outre-mer. Find out more about the application criteria for France.
Germany
There are around 280 posts for English language assistants available in urban and rural Germany, in all 16 Bundeslaender. Undergraduates and graduates of any discipline who have AS level German or equivalent may apply. Find out more about our posts in Germany.
Italy
We have 50 posts across Italy. Undergraduates studying Italian at university can be considered only. Find out more about our posts in Italy.
Latin America
We have posts in countries across Spanish-speaking Latin America. If you speak Spanish, think you can adapt to a totally different culture and want a challenging and unique experience, Latin America might be the right choice for you.
Switzerland
If you are an assistant in French- or German-speaking Switzerland, you could be working in two or three schools. Posts are open to undergraduates and graduates of any discipline who ideally have teaching experience or a strong interest in teaching. Find out if a post in Switzerland is right for you.
Spain
Posts in Spain are available to undergraduates and graduates in primary and secondary schools across Spain’s diverse regions, including Ceuta and Melilla (Spanish territories in North Africa). You may be placed on mainland Spain or one of the 'islas'. Find out more about our posts in Spain.
