Find out what courses are arranged for you

The British Council organises around 2,800 posts for language assistants and it is not possible to organise an induction course for every assistant. However, a national course is not arranged for you, it may be possible to attend one locally.

LOCAL COURSES
If a course is arranged for you locally, you will be sent an invitation by the Local Education Authority (England and Wales), Scottish Local Authority (Scotland) or Library Board (Northern Ireland). If you do not receive an invitation, ask at your school.

All assistants in Northern Ireland are invited to meetings in Belfast in September.

NATIONAL COURSES

FRENCH
Courses are arranged for assistants from all French-speaking countries placed in Scotland at the Alliance Française in Glasgow and the French Institute in Edinburgh.  

There will be 9 one-day induction courses in October and November organised jointly by the British Council and French Embassy for French Language Assistants appointed in England and Wales.  We will e-mail you in September to give you details of the course in your region.

GERMAN

SPANISH
If you are from Spain or Latin America, you are invited to an induction course arranged by the British Council and the Spanish Consejeria de Educacion: -

Spanish language assistants in England and Wales are invited to one of three induction courses. Check our map of the UK by region number to check which region you will be working in:-

Regions 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 - Instituto Cervantes de Londres, Wednesday 7 October 2009  Invitation

Regions 2, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14  - Instituto Cervantes de Londres, Thursday 8 October 2009  Invitation

Regions 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 - University of Manchester, Monday 19 October 2009 Invitation

You also need to complete the 'Datos Personales' form and e-mail it to the Consejeria at auxiliares.uk@educacion.es

Spanish language assistants in Scotland and Northern Ireland will receive an invitation to an induction course from the British Council in the UK.

ITALIAN
There is no national course for Italian language assistants. You should try to attend a general course for language assistants in your area.

CHINESE
The British Council arranges an induction course for language assistants on arrival from China from Wednesday 09 September to Friday 11 September 2009 at the British Council office in London.
