“I want to enthuse our young people particularly with the prospect of working in science. It’s not just about being a boffin in a laboratory – it’s actually about practical application and transforming lives, tackling the world’s problems and doing so in a very practical way.”

Tony Blair, London,9 November 2006

BEAUTIFUL SCIENCE

Beautiful Science is a new and exciting British Council initiative linking science, education and the arts which ultimately seeks to inspire young people to consider a career in science, and encourage young scientists to communicate with the wider public in an open, comprehensive, inspired and interactive way.

Beautiful Science is a regional project which will be implemented between 2007-2009 in 9 countries in South East Europe: Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and the UK.

A programme of activities has been designed to share best practice in science communication, develop partnerships between UK and regional science communicators, and encourage professional development by engaging UK creativity.

The project has three different components, with closely-related activities.
