 CAMBRIDGE CELTA

 TRAINER OF TEACHER

 INTENSIVE ENGLISH TEACHER
    TRAINING PROGRAMME

Taken by over 10,000 people every year The Cambridge Certificate In English Language Teaching To Adults is by far the best known and most widely recognised qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). This course is intended for those looking for a formal qualification in teaching English as a Foreign Language.

The course concentrates on practical aspects of teaching including:

  • teaching practice
  • analysis of language form, meaning and appropriacy
  • techniques for presenting and practising new language
  • techniques to develop speaking, listening, reading & writing skills
  • using teaching aids.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CELTA, TESOL AND TEFL?

Basically TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) refer to the subject area not to a particular qualification. CELTA is a qualification in this area and the acronym is recognized as such throughout the world.

I ALREADY HAVE SOME TEACHING EXPERIENCE. IS THE COURSE SUITABLE FOR ME?

Yes and no. CELTA offers teachers with some experience the opportunity to refresh and extend their technical skills and contribute to their professional development. CELTA is a prerequisite for employment in many parts of the world, and so is increasingly taken by US or Canadian instructors who later wish to be hired outside North America, Korea and Japan. However, if you have extensive experience you should consider a higher teaching award such as the DELTA.

I HAVE AN MA. WHAT’S THE POINT IN DOING THE COURSE?

CELTA focuses on practical classroom skills. Candidates with an MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics often look to the course to provide the practical component so often lacking in university-bound programmes.

IF I CAN’T ATTEND THE UPCOMING COURSE, WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE?

We’re afraid that we will not run a full-time course in 2012. However, we’ll have the part-time course starting from Tuesday, 25 September to Saturday, 15 December. The course takes place from 0845 to 1300, Tuesdays, Thursdays plus Saturdays.(Participants should come to the class 3 times a week).
