GINUE Centre English for Children at a glance

Level 1 A/B
This course lays the foundation for success. From the beginning, children are exposed to language in such a way as to mimic their natural acquisition of their first language. Listening and speaking tasks are designed to challenge them in order to develop confidence, while still being achievable. Early reading skills are introduced through word and phonic recognition and good writing skills to sentence level are encouraged through carefully structured tasks.

Level 2 A/B
This course builds essential language for the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking so that children can communicate meaningfully about themselves, their family and their classmates in structured activities. Their literacy is developed to the level of simple paragraphs.

Level 3 A/B
This course continues to develop children's ability to communicate together by increasing their range of language for use in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Children are encouraged to take part in longer spoken exchanges, challenging their spoken fluency. They also learn to read and write paragraphs with more challenging language and produce a number of short texts such as a postcards or letters.

Level 4 A/B
This course challenges students to use English with an increasing creativity and independence. Children are encouraged to use familiar vocabulary and structures with greater accuracy and integrate new language structures into their existing knowledge of the language to communicate in more depth.

Level 5 A/B
This course continues to build on children’s understanding of English grammar and vocabulary through interesting and motivating topics, including novels, ancient humans and inventions. Children are challenged to utilise new and familiar language to take part in extended discussions and role plays, as well as learn how to write a variety of texts including book reports.

Level 6 A/B
This course consolidates and expands children’s understanding of English grammar and vocabulary through interesting and motivating topics, including nature, charts and graphs, art and drawing, and film. Children are challenged to write a variety of texts including film reviews, expand their knowledge of the wider English community and participate in extended discussions which challenge them to clearly explain their feelings and ideas.
