Research Fellow
Wendy graduated from Loughborough University in 1981 with a Degree in Civil Engineering. After working for six years as an engineer on construction sites and in design offices, she joined the Earthquake Engineering Research Centre (EERC) at the University of Bristol as a research student and gained a PhD in 1992.
Since then Wendy has been a Research Fellow at the EERC. She specialises in the seismic behaviour of dams and other reservoir structures and has worked on other types of structures such as bridges and buildings. She has also contributed to the development of engineering guides for assessing the earthquake risk to structures.
Senior Lecturer in Civil and Structural Engineering
Adam is a Senior Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Bristol. He graduated from Bristol University in 1987 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After working for five years with Ove Arup and Partners in design offices and on construction sites, designing buildings and bridges, he returned to Bristol University to do a PhD. Adam was appointed as a lecturer in 1994.
In 1995 Adam visited Kobe, Japan to study the damage caused by a large earthquake. Since then he has spent his time investigating how to improve the performance of structures in earthquakes. Much of his research now involves laboratory testing using shaking-tables to investigate how to prevent different types of building and bridge failures. Adam is currently studying the effects of earthquakes on long span bridges.
