the time travellers - the time of the dinosaurs
By Sue Clarke
It's the school holidays and Steve, Katie, Boff and Lauren are out with the dog, Benjie. They've found a special place that takes them back in time. They've just found themselves in a strange world with jungle plants and rocks and caves. And suddenly a dinosaur has appeared - an Albertosaurus, a relative of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. And it's taken Steve. What can the children do? They're planning an attack.

Five minutes later they started the attack. Boff found some matches in his pocket. He took a branch from a tree and set it on fire. He ran up to the dinosaur first, waving the flaming branch. Then Lauren and Katie ran up and threw stones and rocks at the dinosaur. Finally, Benjie ran up to the dinosaur and barked as loudly as he could.

The dinosaur was obviously very surprised. Its large red eyes rolled around in horror. Its hand opened and Steve fell to the ground.
"Quick! Run!" shouted Boff.

Steve ran as fast as he could. The others followed and Benjie ran behind them wagging his tail.
"Phew, that was close!" said Steve. "I was about to become a dinosaur's dinner!"

They ran back towards the place where they had arrived.
"Look, there's the hole!" Lauren shouted.

In the distance they could hear the dinosaur stamping and roaring. That was definitely one hungry dinosaur!

They fell through the hole at top speed. Again they entered into the dizzy spinning and whirling blackness of the time tunnel. They went whooshing and spinning through time and space. They landed with a crash back in the field.

Benjie jumped around happily when he saw that Steve was safe. The children walked slowly home after their time travelling adventure.

"I'm starving," said Steve. "What's for dinner?"

"Eggs," said Katie, '"but not dinosaur ones!"
