the time travellers - the time of the dinosaurs
By Sue Clarke
It's the school holidays and Steve, Katie, Boff and Lauren are out with the dog, Benjie. They've found a special place that takes them back in time. They've just found themselves in a strange world with jungle plants and rocks and caves. They've just gone into a cave and have found some strange white objects - they look like dinosaur eggs...

At that moment they heard a loud thumping sound, like thunder. It got louder and louder. 'Boom!'

A dark shadow fell across the entrance to the cave. The children looked out and saw a huge horrible creature with an enormous head and a fantastically long tail. It had a huge mouth with long, sharp teeth. Its body was dark green and its eyes were bright red. It had two short arms but enormous fat legs.

"Aagh!" screamed Katie. "It's a dinosaur!"
Lauren looked at it and said, "I think it's a Tyrannosaurus Rex, like the ones we studied in the museum - only it's alive."

Lauren was almost right. In fact it was an Albertosaurus, a distant cousin of T-Rex. But it didn't really matter at that moment.

The dinosaur looked into the cave and saw the children. Its enormous head came nearer and nearer as they tried to get to the back of the cave.

"Run, quick!" shouted Lauren.

But it was too late. The dinosaur picked up Steve, turned around and stamped off into the trees. 'Boom! Boom! Boom!' went its enormous footsteps.

"Help! Help me!" cried Steve.
"We must save him!" cried Katie. "Quick! Follow the dinosaur!"
