So Mary went into the deep dark forest where scary hairy spiders hung from branches, and everywhere Mary could feel little eyes watching her in the darkness. After a while she could hear the sound of Witchy laughter being carried on the wind.  “Ha ha ha Heeeee”

Soon the forest thinned and in a perfect moonlit witch’s circle were 13 of the ugliest scariest witches Mary had ever seen, flying around on broomsticks.

“Excuse me Witchy!” She called. Nobody looked at her. “

Excuse me Witchy.” Nothing! Mary tried a ghost moan. “Whhooooaaaaa!”

Success! ‘Who’s that?" cackled the oldest and ugliest witch.

“Hello. I’m Mary and it’s my first Halloween tonight, and I’m too frightened to go to the old dark house on my own. Could you come with me?” The witches looked at Mary and laughed “He he he ha hahah – What! A ghost frightened? That is so funny! But we’re very busy here tonight. We’re expecting an important visitor from England so we can’t come with you.”

“But I have to go and scare people on my own and I’m frightened of the mice and the rats and the spiders and the bats and the people”

“Oh, it isn’t scary, Mary." cried the witches as they flew away.
