alan and the alien
By Sue Clarke
Alan is asleep one night. Suddenly he is woken up by bright lights in his room. He looks out of the window and sees a spaceship. It has landed and dark shapes are coming out of it...aliens. When Alan wakes up again, an alien is in his bedroom - it is Zogol from Planet Pegasi 5. Read and listen to the next part of this story.

By now it was morning. The sun shone through the curtains in Alan's bedroom onto the wall. Zogol walked all around the bedroom, examining the objects and looking at the posters on the wall. He stopped in front of a poster of Manchester United and studied it carefully.

"Who is this?" he asked.
"That's my football team, Manchester United."
"Very funny," replied Zogol.

Alan went down to have his breakfast and left Zogol looking at the things in his bedroom. After breakfast he found a coat and a hat for Zogol to wear and they went out into the street.
"Come on!" said Alan, "I want to show you everything on Earth."

They walked along Alan's street and turned left into the High Street. There were a lot of shops here - a baker's, the post office, a shoe shop and a greengrocer's. Outside the greengrocer's shop there were a lot of fruit and vegetables on display. Zogol stood in front of the shop and looked at the fruit and vegetables.

He picked up an apple and threw it into the air. The apple fell to the ground. Then he picked up a potato and put it in his mouth.
"Ugh! Not good," he said.
Then he pointed to a banana and burst out laughing.
"Very, very funny," he said.
