Under the framework of INSPIRE project British Council has been encouraging the creation of three-year university partnerships in the areas of Biotechnology, Education with a focus on education policy & planning, and Environment and Climate Change between universities in Kazakhstan and the UK. Each partnership should aim to deliver outputs in one or two areas of targeted activities, such as research co-operation, teacher exchange, curriculum development, student exchange or collaborative programme development.
Since 2008 the British Council has allocated 135 thousand pounds or 32,4 million tenge and has helped to form four successful partnerships:

We recognized that many UK and Kazakhstan institutions have a limited awareness of their counterparts. To assist institutions to develop new links we have offered 20 grants of up to £2,000 each to support strategic partnership discussions between Kazakhstan institutions and potential partner institution located in the UK, and visa versa.

On May 24, 2011 the British Council organised a seminar for 2010-11 Exploratory Grants holders from nine Kazakhstani and one British university which joined by videoconference in order to share best practice in finding partners among universities in both countries. Learn more
NB: Starting autumn 2011 the British Council Kazakhstan will move away from a grant funding scheme such as strategic partnerships and exploratory grants. Instead we will offer expertise, consultancy and professional advice to institutions in Kazakhstan and the UK, and support their proposed activities given they are in line with our goal to encourage university collaboration.
